What is the Family Support Program for children with additional needs?
Our Family Support Program for families with a child/ren who has additional needs aims to strengthen family relationships and increase the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Who is it for?
To be eligible for this program you need to be a Central Coast resident and a member of a family with a dependent child aged 0-8 years who has a diagnosed disability or have developmental delays and are undergoing assessments for a diagnosis. This is a free service.

How do we support families?
Families are offered an initial assessment interview, where family support workers assist family members to identify their strengths and needs in relation to presenting family issues.

We assist families to develop goals that indicate how they would like things to be in their family. Once goals are determined we negotiate a support case plan with the family, outlining how we can assist families to achieve their goals.

Our case work support plan guides and provides a focus for our work with families. Examples include: counselling, enhancing parenting practices and relationship skills, providing information about your child’s disability and assisting you to access these services by advocating and direct referrals. We also aim to provide accurate and information about your options under the NDIS.

We also provide structured parenting programs which focus specifically on supporting parents who have a child with a disability to give you tips and strategies to manage the big and small problems of family life. Programs help to encourage behaviour you like, cope with stress and teach your child new skills. These programs can be delivered in our office or in your home.

When & Where?
Our family case workers can meet with families and family members at our office in Kariong, in your home or at other agreed locations within the community.

We also provide a range of courses for children, young people and parents. See our course work program for further information about upcoming parenting education courses being delivered near you.
